On Saturday, in game two of a triple header at the Kingspan Stadium, Co Cavan faced Lisburn in the Gordon West Cup final. A deceptively strong swirling wind, for the most part blew diagonally down the pitch. A very vocal crowd added to the occasion.
Lisburn struck first. Fast ball found Ben Kirkwood in space, on the left. Despite the attentions of the defence, he made it over in the corner. Richard McGregor’s conversion, from the narrow angle, put Lisburn 7-0 up after 5 minutes.
Lisburn kept the scoreboard ticking over with a 10th minute penalty goal by McGregor.
