Schools Cup: Belfast High School 27 Portadown College 14

We are currently carrying out a necessary behind-the-scenes upgrade to how images are stored and delivered on The Front Row Union Sports. With over 770,000 images on the site, we are moving our entire image library to a dedicated cloud storage service. This means images will load faster for you, regardless of where you are in the world, and the site will be more reliable overall.

As we are working on three separate versions of images during the offload process, the site cache sometimes struggles to keep up with which version to display and occasionally post grid images or complete galleries may fail to appear. This is a temporary side effect of the migration process — the image exists and is safe, it is simply in the process of being moved to its new home and identified as being there. A refresh of the page will usually bring them back, however, if it does not please contact john@thefrontrowunion.com stating clearly the post address and we will restore it as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes and appreciate your patience.

We expect the bulk of the image migration to be completed by the end of June 2026, with a fully upgraded version of the site ready to launch in August 2026. Once that work is done, the site will be noticeably faster, images will load more reliably, and you will not see any further disruption of this kind. Thank you for your continued support of The Front Row Union Sports.

A soaking wet Saturday morning treated a large group of supports to a hard fought Schools Cup match, when Portadown College travelled to Belfast High School.

A crowd of over 100 enjoyed what turned out to be lovely running rugby when in fact it should have been a slow slog in difficult conditions. The surface at Belfast High School was impeccable but unfortunately the same could not be said about the conditions overhead.

Belfast High piled on the pressure throughout the first half.

Belfast High took the lead when Cameron Banford slotted over a penalty to give them a 3 – 0 lead on the 10th minute. The lead was quickly extended when crossed the white wash only a few minutes later. Kicking boots firmly on, Banford slotted the extra two.

Belfast High keep the action in the Portadown College half and extended their lead further when we witnessed a beautiful offload from the winger into ‘s hands for Bennett to comfortably cross for an extra 5 to give the High School and 15 – 0 lead at half time.

The second half kicked off and the rain did not let up, Belfast High continued the pressure both on the scoreboard and the pitch when centre Adam Bennett went straight under the posts to push the lead out to 20 – 0. Banford carefully split the uprights to leave BHS 22 – 0 ahead.

Portadown College battled back in the second half.

Portadown showed resilience and fought right to the death, rewarded for their efforts when made a beautiful break to start the scoring for Portadown.

With the conditions worsening, crowds climbing further into their coats, the players didn’t seem to notice. We were treated to two late, late tries to finish of the game. First Belfast High School’s crossed over to take their final total to 27 then, not to be outdone, scored for Portadown to take them out to 14 points.
