Erne Integrated College and Enniskillen Royal Grammar Schools met in the Girls School Cup Final at Ravenhill early Tuesday afternoon.
The game was played over four 7 minute periods in a suitably coned off area in the centre of the pitch.
Erne took an early lead in the first quarter with co captains and Ulster U18 players Sophie Barrett and Moya Hill to the fore though a breakaway from Kelly Quinn was a the pick of the early onslaught.

However a late score from Enniskillen’s Chloe Moore kept Enniskillen in the hunt at the end of the first quarter.
Erne continued to push in the second quarter and they continued to score in the second quarter with a real battling effort from Molly Quinn.

However, the grammar school started to chip away at Erne’s lead throughout the third quarter as their flyer Niamh Johnston scored a terrific try from deep.

This was quickly followed by another long range effort from Zara Hutchinson and it was game on as the teams went into the final quarter.

An excellent score from Enniskillen captain Scarlet Keys took the score to 8 – 8 towards the end of the final quarter and the impetus appeared to be with the defending champions as the clock ticked down.

However a series of high tackles saw Erne marched up the pitch and the experienced Barrett sent Hope Milligan over for the winning score with the last play of the game.

The historic first ever win, all the more enjoyable for dethroning their near rivals, was enthusiastically celebrated by Erne at the final whistle.
