We caught up with the Ulster Hockey Schoolgirls Senior Cup Final between The Royal School Armagh and Portadown College at Stormont on Wednesday evening.
It was another classic encounter between these two teams who were meeting in this final for the third time in a row, with Portadown the defending champions. The Royal School would have been firm favourites on form from the start of the season but a big upswing in form, post Christmas, from Portadown gave the game plenty of jeopardy.
Unfortunately, for Portadown, all Armagh’s big names came to play for this one; including Katie Herron, who is on an extraordinarily rich vein of form.

Easily the best schoolgirl player in Ireland, at the minute, the mercurial Herron and Evie Girvan combined mid-way through the first quarter for Girvan to net the opener for a 1 – 0 lead for Armagh, which they took into the second quarter.
