I caught up with the Women’s All Ireland Hockey League match between Queen’s University and Portadown on Wednesday night at The Dub.
Both teams were looking for a win to ease the pressure on what is going to be a hectic final round this Saturday.
Portadown started well in a lively opening quarter and their efforts were eventually rewarded with a 15th minute goal from Annie Gordon who turned in a penalty corner strike from Rebekah Lennon for a 0 – 1 lead which they took into Q2.

Queen’s tried to impose their pattern on the game in the second quarter but excellent work from Serena Barr and Beth Harper in defensive midfield kept Queen’s a safe distance from the danger zone.
