I caught up with the Women’s Junior 1 clash between Queen’s University and Ballymena 2nd XI’s at The Dub in the Saturday lunchtime slot.

Queen’s went on the attack from the pass back and I feared for Ballymena in the early stages as the home team continued to swarm forward until Sarah Sandford gave Queens a 1 – 0 lead ten minutes into the game.

Stanford and Megan Getty continued to keep the Ballymena defence on their toes but the visitors didn’t panic and some calm defence and fine interventions from Ballymena’s keeper kept the score at 1 – 0 throughout the rest of the first half.
