Chastening Day 1 for Ireland Women in Japan.

We are currently carrying out a necessary behind-the-scenes upgrade to how images are stored and delivered on The Front Row Union Sports. With over 770,000 images on the site, we are moving our entire image library to a dedicated cloud storage service. This means images will load faster for you, regardless of where you are in the world, and the site will be more reliable overall.

As we are working on three separate versions of images during the offload process, the site cache sometimes struggles to keep up with which version to display and occasionally post grid images or complete galleries may fail to appear. This is a temporary side effect of the migration process — the image exists and is safe, it is simply in the process of being moved to its new home and identified as being there. A refresh of the page will usually bring them back, however, if it does not please contact john@thefrontrowunion.com stating clearly the post address and we will restore it as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes and appreciate your patience.

We expect the bulk of the image migration to be completed by the end of June 2026, with a fully upgraded version of the site ready to launch in August 2026. Once that work is done, the site will be noticeably faster, images will load more reliably, and you will not see any further disruption of this kind. Ireland Women’s Sevens team have had a particularly chastening day in the Women’s Sevens World Series in Kitakyushu, Japan.

The day started with a record breaking 45 – 0 defeat by Fiji in the opening round which was quickly followed by a 36 – 0 loss to Australia. The two results left Ireland needing a miracle to qualify for the Cup with their final match against Brazil with our girls needing to score 60+ points to progress. The main problem with this scenario being that Ireland had failed to trouble the scoreboard in the previous two matches.

As it was, Brazil took an early lead and poor handling from Ireland saw the South American side add two more unconverted tries before Amee Murphy Crowe pulled one back before the break.

An intercept try for Brazil wrapped the game up mid way through the second half before the teams swapped scores in the dying minutes. Final score Ireland 10 Brazil 27.

It’s a huge step back for Ireland, or more correctly, they appear have stayed static while the rest of the sides have improved. A truly dismal day.

Matches are still ongoing as I write this but it looks like it’ll be Ireland v Brazil again on Day 2 as they battle it out with Japan and Spain to be crowned best of the rest. Check back later for Day 2 Fixtures.
