Saturday morning remained cold, grey and wet, as I stayed on in Lisburn for the Schools Cup Round of 16 Tie between Friends School and Methodist College. A deceptively cold wind blew down the pitch, initially in Friends favour.
Methody hit the ground running and took an early lead when Ruari Kennedy scored on the right. Louis Curran’s conversion gave Methody a 7-0 lead after 6 minutes.

More Methody pressure told and Friends conceded another try, this time to Harry Doherty’s surge over the line, to lead 12-0 on 10 minutes.
Friends responded with a 15th minute penalty goal from Ross Glover to bring the score back to 3-12, before a Methody error let Zac Wilson in for a try, close to the posts. Ross Glover converted to reduce the deficit to 10-12 on 19 minutes.
