On a very cold Wednesday afternoon, Royal Belfast Academical Institution faced Wallace High School, at Havelock Park, in the first McCullough Cup Semi Final.
Though Inst had most of the play and created a lot of chances, they couldn’t break a very well drilled Wallace defence. With RBAI controlling midfield, the Wallace forwards survived on scraps. Despite most of the play being in the Wallace half, halftime was reached scoreless.

The deadlock was broken in the 40th minute, when Jacob McIlhatton scored from a narrow angle for Inst to lead 1-0 at the end of the 3rd quarter.
