Club: Ballyclare 14 Instonians 9

We are currently carrying out a necessary behind-the-scenes upgrade to how images are stored and delivered on The Front Row Union Sports. With over 770,000 images on the site, we are moving our entire image library to a dedicated cloud storage service. This means images will load faster for you, regardless of where you are in the world, and the site will be more reliable overall.

As we are working on three separate versions of images during the offload process, the site cache sometimes struggles to keep up with which version to display and occasionally post grid images or complete galleries may fail to appear. This is a temporary side effect of the migration process — the image exists and is safe, it is simply in the process of being moved to its new home and identified as being there. A refresh of the page will usually bring them back, however, if it does not please contact john@thefrontrowunion.com stating clearly the post address and we will restore it as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes and appreciate your patience.

We expect the bulk of the image migration to be completed by the end of June 2026, with a fully upgraded version of the site ready to launch in August 2026. Once that work is done, the site will be noticeably faster, images will load more reliably, and you will not see any further disruption of this kind. Thank you for your continued support of The Front Row Union Sports.

Played before a huge crowd at The Cloughan, Ballyclare scored a deserving victory over league leaders Instonians to bring themselves to within three points of their South Belfast rivals. ‘s try in the third quarter was the difference between the top two in a very tense encounter.

Ballyclare kicked off in near perfect conditions knowing only a win would do and immediately took the game to the Inst Old Boys. However, for all their early possession they only had a penalty from to show for their efforts. quickly equalised for Inst, but it was Ballyclare who continued to dominate. A teak tough visiting defence continued to frustrate the home side but another Smith penalty on 26 minutes saw them edge back in front at 6-3.

After soaking up more pressure Inst paid a rare visit to the Ballyclare ‘22′ and again came away with points as Campbell kicked a penalty following a Ballyclare infringement at a scrum. At 6-6 at the break, Instonians would’ve been more than the happier of the two sides.

Instonians made a bright start to the second half and another Campbell penalty saw the lead for the first time in the game at 6-9. The lead didn’t last long as on 50 mins constant pressure from the Ballyclare pack saw them create an overlap and quick passing from Smith and put winger Kirk in for an easy finish in the corner.

Ballyclare extended their lead to five points on the hour when Smith landed his third penalty and they continued to dominate proceedings but were unable to kill the game off as Inst continued to fight and stay in losing bonus point territory. Eventually they found a gap in the Ballyclare defence through scrum-half as the clock turned red, but the home defence regrouped, and forced into a knock on following a big hit on the left wing. Seconds later they were celebrating a win that kept their season alive and a win that will see the Championship 1 title go down to the wire.
