Limavady Grammar School welcomed Wallace High School to the beautiful Roe Valley, bathed in warm, autumn sunshine. A perfect morning and perfect conditions for rugby

And right from the off, Wallace didn’t disappoint. From the kick off, Wallace had the upper hand, showing superb ball possession and solid, precise passing. Within the first 2 minutes of play, Wallace Jason McNeight sliced open the Limavady defence and crossed the line at the posts. The try was converted by out half Jack Dillon.

Limavady restarted, and the Wallace forwards set up superb first phase ball, with their scrum half passing quickly to his back line who all showed a great turn of speed and precise passing to get the ball to Jack Ferguson and see him over the line for their 2^nd try of the game, again placed nicely underneath the posts. The try was again converted by Dillon.

In what can only be described as some of the best passing and attacking open play I have seen from Schools rugby, Wallace scored their 3^rd try with James Peters going over – and with less than 10 minutes played.

Limavady gradually regained some composure as the first half progressed, before Wallace broke from a scrum, and a quick ball out the back line saw centre Ben Carson go over for their 4^th try of the first half.

Constant handling mistakes by Limavady gifted the ball to Wallace time after time, but Wallace were unable to capitalise on these errors for the remainder of the half.

Half time: Limavady 0 – Wallace 24

The start of the 2^nd half was a much tighter affair. A lot of nip and tuck, hard hitting forward rugby, until 12 minutes in, Dillon broke through to claim a try, though he’ll be disappointed to miss a fairly straightforward conversion.

From then, Wallace started to dominate again, hard ground gained by their big athletic pack, setting up sweet ball to allow the superbly drilled backline to pass and move the ball at ease. Carson eventually made the break and went over in the corner for another, the conversion again missed by Wallace.

After the restart, Wallace continued to dominate Limavady at all quarters, strong forward play setting up good clean ball for the backs, culminating in Carson going over for his 3^rd try and Wallace’s 7^th try of the game.

An all round superb display of rugby by Wallace, big strong athletic forwards and a very pacy, well drilled backline.
