2021-12-12 U18 Girls Indoor Hockey Tournament

We are currently carrying out a necessary behind-the-scenes upgrade to how images are stored and delivered on The Front Row Union Sports. With over 770,000 images on the site, we are moving our entire image library to a dedicated cloud storage service. This means images will load faster for you, regardless of where you are in the world, and the site will be more reliable overall.

As we are working on three separate versions of images during the offload process, the site cache sometimes struggles to keep up with which version to display and occasionally post grid images or complete galleries may fail to appear. This is a temporary side effect of the migration process — the image exists and is safe, it is simply in the process of being moved to its new home and identified as being there. A refresh of the page will usually bring them back, however, if it does not please contact john@thefrontrowunion.com stating clearly the post address and we will restore it as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes and appreciate your patience.

We expect the bulk of the image migration to be completed by the end of June 2026, with a fully upgraded version of the site ready to launch in August 2026. Once that work is done, the site will be noticeably faster, images will load more reliably, and you will not see any further disruption of this kind. Thank you for your continued support of The Front Row Union Sports.

We caught up with Ulster Hockey’s U18 Girls Indoor Hockey Tournament on Sunday afternoon at Antrim Forum.

With one team withdrawing, this competition featured five sides; Randalstown HC, Armagh HC, Ballymoney HC, Ards HC and Coleraine HC. The teams each played four 10 minute matches in a round robin format with the top four sides going through to the semifinals and the winners progressing to the final. The results from the round robin stage are shown below.

Round Robin FixturesResults
Randalstown v Armagh1 — 1
Ballymoney v Ards1 — 1
Ards v Randalstown2 — 0
Coleraine v Ballymoney0 — 1
Ards v Coleraine0 — 0
Armagh v Ballymoney0 — 1
Coleraine v Randalstown1 — 0
Armagh v Ards0 — 2
Randalstown v Ballymoney0 — 1
Coleraine v Armagh1 — 1

With the late withdrawal, of one of the teams, the competition was just starting the semi final stages when we arrived back at the Antrim Forum. Unfortunately out friends at Randalstown HC missed out on the top four in the highly competitive group stages and had left by the time we got there.

Ballymoney and Armagh battled out a 2 – 2 draw in the semi final, Ballymoney progressing via runs.

The first semi final featured 2nd placed Ballymoney against third placed Armagh and as you would expect from the round robin results it was a close game with Ballymoney progressing through to the final on runs after a 2 all draw.

Coleraine’s captain led the charge in a 4 – 2 win against Ards in the second semi final

In the second semi final top ranked Ards were turned over by an impressive display from Coleraine with their captain Zara Craig particularly impressive as they ended up with a 2 – 4 win against the much fancied Ards.

Coleraine and Ballymoney battle out a tense final.

Coleraine’s good form, and particularly that of their captain, continued in the final and Craig’s goal was enough to see them lift the trophy with a 1 – 0 win.
