Championship 1: Cooke 15 Grosvenor 7

We are currently carrying out a necessary behind-the-scenes upgrade to how images are stored and delivered on The Front Row Union Sports. With over 770,000 images on the site, we are moving our entire image library to a dedicated cloud storage service. This means images will load faster for you, regardless of where you are in the world, and the site will be more reliable overall.

As we are working on three separate versions of images during the offload process, the site cache sometimes struggles to keep up with which version to display and occasionally post grid images or complete galleries may fail to appear. This is a temporary side effect of the migration process — the image exists and is safe, it is simply in the process of being moved to its new home and identified as being there. A refresh of the page will usually bring them back, however, if it does not please contact john@thefrontrowunion.com stating clearly the post address and we will restore it as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes and appreciate your patience.

We expect the bulk of the image migration to be completed by the end of June 2026, with a fully upgraded version of the site ready to launch in August 2026. Once that work is done, the site will be noticeably faster, images will load more reliably, and you will not see any further disruption of this kind. Thank you for your continued support of The Front Row Union Sports.

Cooke and Grosvenor went head to head in a Championship D1 match at Shaw’s Bridge on Saturday afternoon with Cooke edging it in a feisty game.

Report and pictures from Terry McCreesh

The game took a while to get going after and injury to Grosvenor’s captain but Cooke managed to get the scoreboard ticking over towards the end of the first quarter, taking advantage of Kelly’s absence to go over off the back of a scrum.

Six minutes later Cooke’s Andy Nelson picked up a loose pass and sprinted for the corner for their second unconverted try taking the score to 10 – 0.

The home side we’re well on top in the scrum and as the first half neared completion a succession of penalties saw two of Grosvenor’s players yellow carded, for a high tackle and a deliberate knock on, leaving the visitors chasing a 10 – 0 deficit with 13 players, and without the talismanic Kelly, as the teams changed ends.

However, a rousing half time team talk saw Grosvenor open up the second half in some style and a kick to the corner ended with prop barreling over from a line out. added the conversion to take the score to 10 – 7 in Cooke’s favour.

Cooke were able to hold off a second half comeback from Grosvenor.

It took Cooke a while to respond but at the start of the final quarter fullback exploited space out wide to cross for their third unconverted try.

Grosvenor looked for a response but, despite a yellow card for Cooke, they were unable to break down the home sides defence, the game ending without further score.
