Only really caught the second half of this match as I was doing some photography with Inishowen II’s at the ‘pitch’ earmarked for development should Inishowen win the Kelloggs field of Dreams Competition.

By the time I’d made my way up to Cairn School and completed my interviews Inishowen were trailing to Larne  0 – 10 with the Larne tries coming from scrum half Aaron Gowdy and power prop Stevie Johnston.

The hard working Gowdy went over for his second try shortly after the break, spotting space out left and rounding the defence. The try went unconverted but Larne looked comfortable with the score reading 0 – 15.

Inishowen had other ideas and upped their game to keep Larne pinned in their own half for the next 15 minutes passing up two kickable penalties in search of a try. They eventually got their reward when out half Paul Cassidy spotted a gap to dart through to score beside the posts. Cassidy converted his own try to take the score to 7 – 15.

Unfortunately for the home side they ran out of puff and the young Larne side dominated the remainder of the game and came close to extending their lead with penalty attempts sliding just wide.

Eventually a mistake at a 22 dropout gave the Larne scrum great field position and after a series of close calls Larne’s captain Mark Magill burst through a couple of tackles to score. Phil Agnew added the extras taking the final score to 7 – 22.
