We are currently carrying out a necessary behind-the-scenes upgrade to how images are stored and delivered on The Front Row Union Sports. With over 770,000 images on the site, we are moving our entire image library to a dedicated cloud storage service. This means images will load faster for you, regardless of where you are in the world, and the site will be more reliable overall.

As we are working on three separate versions of images during the offload process, the site cache sometimes struggles to keep up with which version to display and occasionally post grid images or complete galleries may fail to appear. This is a temporary side effect of the migration process — the image exists and is safe, it is simply in the process of being moved to its new home and identified as being there. A refresh of the page will usually bring them back, however, if it does not please contact john@thefrontrowunion.com stating clearly the post address and we will restore it as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes and appreciate your patience.

We expect the bulk of the image migration to be completed by the end of June 2026, with a fully upgraded version of the site ready to launch in August 2026. Once that work is done, the site will be noticeably faster, images will load more reliably, and you will not see any further disruption of this kind. We caught up with the new initiative in the U18’s girls program where clubs have been amalgamated into regional Barbarian sides in order to get more 15 a side rugby under their belts.

I believe there will be four Barbarian sides North East, North West, East and South together with, the two stalwarts of the girls U18 programme, Virginia and Enniskillen who will field their club sides.

It’s something we’ve been advocating for a few seasons now and while there is still a long way to go it’s a promising start.

U18 Girls Rugby regional hit out as Barbarians North East entertain Barbarians East.

In Sunday’s game at Randalstown RFC the East side (Cooke, Malone and Larne I believe) came out on top against the North East representatives (Ballyclare, Ballymena, Ballymoney, Randalstown) by 5 tries to 3 in an entertaining enough game.

Understandably, as the first hit out for both teams, it was a bit rough round the edges, and it does need to develop proper scrums and line outs, but it was a decent enough start. There was a good selection of talent on view on both sides and the expectations of what these players can deliver needs to rise. They are more than capable.

It’s an opportunity for Ulster Rugby to start the long journey of bringing their women’s programme in line with the work being done at rest of the provinces. This is something that should eventually be overseen by the Women’s Senior Coaching team as part of a season long player development pathway to representative, and ultimately senior, rugby.
