We caught up with the U16 East league match between Academy and Instonians late Saturday morning at Roughfort.
Once the early mist has dispersed, both teams gave us some great open rugby. Instonians started strongly, pinning Academy into their own half but the defence stayed solid and in the 12th minute Academy broke through in midfield with No 12, JJ McVeigh bursting through to score between the post, Oliver Gordon adding the extra points.
Instonians pressed hard but solid defence kept them at bay and just before half time, the home team increased their lead with McVeigh going over for his second try of the game to take the score to 12 – 0 at the break.
With the second half under way, a bit of indiscipline cost the visitors when Oliver Gordon popped over a penalty to take the score to 15 – 0 early in the half. . . .
