European Champions Cup: Ulster 31 Racing 92 15 Pool 2

We are currently carrying out a necessary behind-the-scenes upgrade to how images are stored and delivered on The Front Row Union Sports. With over 770,000 images on the site, we are moving our entire image library to a dedicated cloud storage service. This means images will load faster for you, regardless of where you are in the world, and the site will be more reliable overall.

As we are working on three separate versions of images during the offload process, the site cache sometimes struggles to keep up with which version to display and occasionally post grid images or complete galleries may fail to appear. This is a temporary side effect of the migration process — the image exists and is safe, it is simply in the process of being moved to its new home and identified as being there. A refresh of the page will usually bring them back, however, if it does not please contact john@thefrontrowunion.com stating clearly the post address and we will restore it as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes and appreciate your patience.

We expect the bulk of the image migration to be completed by the end of June 2026, with a fully upgraded version of the site ready to launch in August 2026. Once that work is done, the site will be noticeably faster, images will load more reliably, and you will not see any further disruption of this kind. Thank you for your continued support of The Front Row Union Sports.

On Saturday evening Racing 92 were the visitors to Kingspan Stadium for the European Champions Cup Pool 2 game against Ulster. Earlier in the day I ran in to them at Shaw’s Bridge, where they had a pre-game leg stretcher. After Ulster’s capitulation in the closing minutes, against Bath last week, Ulster need a performance in front of a large but not sell-out crowd.

Ulster started as they meant to go on. A maul, from a tap penalty saw get the touch down. ‘s conversion had Ulster 7-0 up in 4 minutes.

Stuart McCloskey spins out of a tackle to score

After Racing had a try chalked out for crossing, quick ball, from a maul, saw spin out of tackle to score mid-way out on the left. Cooney added the points and Ulster were 14-0 up after 24 minutes.

Racing responded minutes later, when squeezed in on the left corner for 5-14.

Matty Rea scored Ulster’s 3rd try

In the closing moments of the 1st half was on the end of a pass to go over in the right corner. Cooney converted for Ulster to go in 21-5 up at halftime.

On 45 minutes Ulster created another maul from a tap penalty and Timoney was on hand to touch down. Cooney’s conversion had Ulster up 28-5.

With the crowd in full voice Ulster continued to press but it was Racing who scored next, when scored from a ruck to bring it back to 10-28.

Tarrit added another score, on 65 minutes, before Cooney landed a short range penalty to put Ulster out to 31-15.

Ulster’s control of the ball was secure in the last few minutes, as they ran the clock down for another famous bonus point win at the Kingspan stadium.
