It was a short walk down to the Queens Arena rugby pitch, from the hockey pitch, for the AIL2A fixture between Queens and Navan. In recent weeks Queens had lost form and dropped down to 3rd place in the league. As one spectator said to me, “It doesn’t matter about the performance, we badly need a win today!”
Queens looked rusty in the opening 30 minutes, but Navan couldn’t take advantage. Ball handing was poor, wrong options were taken and too many silly penalties needlessly conceded.
Queens finally got it together. A 32nd minute try by Curtis Pollock, following a lineout maul, put Queens 5 – 0 up.
However, on 35 minutes Leandro Ramirez scored an equaliser for Navan.
