Championship 1: Grosvenor 19 Instonians 28

We are currently carrying out a necessary behind-the-scenes upgrade to how images are stored and delivered on The Front Row Union Sports. With over 770,000 images on the site, we are moving our entire image library to a dedicated cloud storage service. This means images will load faster for you, regardless of where you are in the world, and the site will be more reliable overall.

As we are working on three separate versions of images during the offload process, the site cache sometimes struggles to keep up with which version to display and occasionally post grid images or complete galleries may fail to appear. This is a temporary side effect of the migration process — the image exists and is safe, it is simply in the process of being moved to its new home and identified as being there. A refresh of the page will usually bring them back, however, if it does not please contact john@thefrontrowunion.com stating clearly the post address and we will restore it as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes and appreciate your patience.

We expect the bulk of the image migration to be completed by the end of June 2026, with a fully upgraded version of the site ready to launch in August 2026. Once that work is done, the site will be noticeably faster, images will load more reliably, and you will not see any further disruption of this kind. Thank you for your continued support of The Front Row Union Sports.

Instonians displaced their Cooke at the top of the Ulster Rugby Championship Division 1 with a four try win against Grosvenor at Gibson Park on Saturday afternoon.

We covered the first half of this entertaining game and it looked for long periods that the home side were going to take this one.

Grosvenor’s left wing goes over for the opening score.

Instonians had considerable set piece dominance, particularly in the scrum, but it was their fleet of foot hosts who opened the scoring as their left wing went over in the cornet for an unconverted try.

The visitors continued to dominate territory and possession with and prominent but the final pass continually went astray and Grosvenor always looked dangerous on the break.

The visitors finally got their act together after the first water break and they started the second quarter with a fine try by Keane after a big carry from Whitten. Keane added the extras to take the score to 5 – 7 in Inst’s favour.

Robert Whitten takes the ball on for Instonians.

However, Instonians handling errors crept back into their game and Grosvenor finished the first half with a 12 – 7 lead after a try from their right winger, converted by the scrum half gave them the edge as the teams changed ends.

I nipped over to cover the Malone game then but Instonians must have got their passing act together in what sounded like an entertaining second half, from my vantage point on the other pitch. Keane crossed for a second converted try and Whitten and also crossed for converted tries for a 19 – 28 win, Grosvenor mauling over for a late try.
