Club Men: Instonians 12 Academy 12 Preseason

We are currently carrying out a necessary behind-the-scenes upgrade to how images are stored and delivered on The Front Row Union Sports. With over 770,000 images on the site, we are moving our entire image library to a dedicated cloud storage service. This means images will load faster for you, regardless of where you are in the world, and the site will be more reliable overall.

As we are working on three separate versions of images during the offload process, the site cache sometimes struggles to keep up with which version to display and occasionally post grid images or complete galleries may fail to appear. This is a temporary side effect of the migration process — the image exists and is safe, it is simply in the process of being moved to its new home and identified as being there. A refresh of the page will usually bring them back, however, if it does not please contact john@thefrontrowunion.com stating clearly the post address and we will restore it as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes and appreciate your patience.

We expect the bulk of the image migration to be completed by the end of June 2026, with a fully upgraded version of the site ready to launch in August 2026. Once that work is done, the site will be noticeably faster, images will load more reliably, and you will not see any further disruption of this kind. Thank you for your continued support of The Front Row Union Sports.

It got decidedly more chilly at Shaws Bridge as the day progressed but neither of these two teams would have noticed as the temperature rose on the pitch.

This was a full blooded friendly and Academy started as if they had missed close contact over the last few months, setting about their hosts with unrestrained effort.

Jude Crowley goes under the posts for Academy

A try in the first quarter from Jude Cowley, converted by , gave Academy a seven point lead and when Inst’s was yellow carded as the quarter drew to an end it looked as though the visitors might open up a sizable lead.

However, Academy’s Rob Sturgess followed Cregan to the bin at the start of the second quarter and as this period progressed the home side began to enjoy more territory and Instonians finished off the first half with a try from to take the score to 5 – 12.

The last two quarters were a reverse of the first half with Instonians piling on the pressure throughout the third quarter with a converted try from giving them a 12 – 7 lead.

Andrew Keane finished off his own break with a first half try for Instonians.

Sure enough Academy came storming back in the final quarter and, after a few attempts, they found the line in the closing minutes with Crowley going over for his second at the bottom of a heap out wide. Kenny had a chance to take the game with the conversion from the touchline but it was pushed just wide.

Final score: Instonians 12 Academy 12
