Queen’s University welcomed Ballynahinch to The Dub on Saturday afternoon for a SONI Ulster Rugby Premiership Division 1 match.
As it was, Rainey Old Boys beat Banbridge with a try bonus and wrapped up the incredibly short league a week ahead of schedule.
The students went into the game looking for a big win and hoping for a slip up by Rainey Old Boys in their match against Banbridge.
Ballynahinch, despite being two All Ireland Leagues above Queen’s, were playing for pride having lost their previous three Premiership fixtures way back in September.
It was a good run out for Hinch who won 10 – 20 in a competitive match and we hope it starts a revival of fortune in the All Ireland 1A when it resumes in January. The visitors points came from tries by Rhys O’Donnell and Greg Hutley with Hutley adding 2 conversions and 2 penalties.
The Queen’s side, who will be pushing for promotion in AIL 2A, will also have got plenty out of the game. Luke Pollock caught the eye with a try and Ben Power showed another side to his game, the bustling centre adding a conversion and penalty.
