On Sunday 3rd June the Olympic Torch Relay arrived in Northern Ireland. One of the main stops was Stormont Estate. Volunteer Now’s Inspire Projects, GoldMark and Creating Volunteer Champions were invited to do activities on the lawn outside of the building. Cooke Women were one of the sporting teams asked to showcase their sport and talent. 😉

The team did some basic ball work, skills and lineouts before the torch arrived at Stormont, which made a picturesque setting for a Sunday morning chuckabout.

The girls stated it was a great atmosphere and an experience to play rugby on the lawn’s of parliament. Playing rugby in front of a crowd of 10,000 people was something really quite special and being able to be a part of the Olympic Torch Relay was a great honour.

Cooke Women’s Coach Steven Williams stated:

‘I think it was great to be involved in something as big as the Olympic Torch Relay. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity. To be there representing the club and women’s rugby in the country was a very proud moment.’
