Fans of Ulster will have been used to seeing ex fullback Bryn Cunningham stroll majestically round  the Ravenhill pitch with his rock solid play shoring up the Ulster defence.

On Sunday 28th August the popular player will be donning his walking boots for a stroll of a different kind as he takes part in a sponsored climb of Slieve Donard in aid of local charity the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children.

The Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children is a registered charity, which offers practical, emotional and financial support to children and young people up to and including the age of 24, who are living with cancer, and their families and Bryn is pleased to be able to offer his support for this worthy cause.

Most of us have been affected by the reality of Cancer, whether it be a family member or friend, but, when it can so tragically impact directly on young children, it makes the diagnosis even more terrible.

I am delighted that I am able to take part in such a worthwhile event as the Slieve Donard Climb in a bid to help NICFC in some small way.

Having only recently started to jog again after my retirement from Rugby, as a result of a knee injury, I fully expect this to be a challenge but also an extremely rewarding experience.

The walk is approximately 5.5 miles climbing to a height of 2550 ft and on a clear day affords  a breathtaking view as far afield as Scrabo Tower, the Wicklow Hills, Isle of Man and even Scotland!

The walk will start at 9.00am from the Donard Car Park heading toward Commedagh Mountain, then along the Mourne Wall towards the summit of Slieve Donard.

Afterward participants can celebrate their achievement with a barbeque and everyone will receive a personalised certificate of appreciation.

Should you wish to join Bryn for this worthy cause, it’s not to late to participate. Please visit the NI Cancer Fund for Children. Click here for details.
