On Saturday Nenagh Ormond travelled up from Co Tipperary, to play Queens, at Upper Malone, in a AIL2B league game.
After covering the 1st half of the Queens v Portadown Hockey match, across the road, I had barely taken up position on the dead-ball line, when, in the first action of the second half, the referee showed a red card to a Nenagh prop forward for dropping the knee on to an exposed back.
Queens had taken a 22 – 7 lead into halftime, with Jonny Hunter and Ben Heath tries, a penalty try and a James Humphreys conversion and penalty goal. Nenagh had replied with a Nicky Irwin try and Fionn McGibney conversion. Going down to 14 men was always going to make it an uphill struggle for Nenagh and so it proved.
