On Friday evening Ulster Rugby dipped into the group stages of the European Challenge Cup for the first time, with the visit of Racing 92 to Ravenhill. With one eye on the Top 14, Racing left behind their French Internationals. Ulster named their new short term signing Angus Bell on the bench.

Ulster opening attack was shattered when Antoine Gilbert intercepted an offload to run the length of the pitch to score under the posts. He converted his try for Racing to lead 7-0 in 7 minutes.
