All Ireland League: Cooke 7 Suttonians 15 (Women)

We are currently carrying out a necessary behind-the-scenes upgrade to how images are stored and delivered on The Front Row Union Sports. With over 770,000 images on the site, we are moving our entire image library to a dedicated cloud storage service. This means images will load faster for you, regardless of where you are in the world, and the site will be more reliable overall.

As we are working on three separate versions of images during the offload process, the site cache sometimes struggles to keep up with which version to display and occasionally post grid images or complete galleries may fail to appear. This is a temporary side effect of the migration process — the image exists and is safe, it is simply in the process of being moved to its new home and identified as being there. A refresh of the page will usually bring them back, however, if it does not please contact john@thefrontrowunion.com stating clearly the post address and we will restore it as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes and appreciate your patience.

We expect the bulk of the image migration to be completed by the end of June 2026, with a fully upgraded version of the site ready to launch in August 2026. Once that work is done, the site will be noticeably faster, images will load more reliably, and you will not see any further disruption of this kind. Thank you for your continued support of The Front Row Union Sports.

We caught up with our first Women’s AIL match on Friday evening at Shaw’s Bridge as Cooke entertained Suttonians in a re-arranged fixture following an earlier postponement due to the passing of Queen Elizabeth.

Unfortunately things didn’t go our way as the autofocus servo on my new “low light” F2.8 300mm lens packed in so we were left with the under powered F2.8 70 – 200 for this game so we’re leaving this report free to view.

The game started in comparatively dry conditions but there were a few torrential downpours which didn’t help our coverage. Suttonians started the better, but the home defence held strong and, from 10 minutes in , Cooke had started to build up a head of steam bringing the play up to the carpark end of the pitch.

Ilse van staden crosses for an early try for Cooke.

The home team squandered a couple of golden chances, due to a bit of while line fever amongst the forwards, as they kept Suttonians pinned in their own 22. However, just as it looked like the Dublin side had weathered the storm, a break from , on the 13th minute, ended with the former international rounding the Sutts defence to finish close to the posts. added the extras to give Cooke a 7 – 0 lead.

It was a period where Cooke could have had pulled clear but they lacked the composure to finish off their chances and Suttonians began to work their way back into the game.

It all got a bit wet during the game.

The largest downpour arrived about 25 minutes in and the game was a bit of a lottery. Suttonians made the best of the conditions and, after keeping Cooked pinned in their own half for a good fifteen minutes they finally got their reward with going over for a try just before the break. added the conversion to take the score to 7 – 7 at half time.

It was a scrappy enough second half. Cooke just about edged the second half territory and possession but Suttonians did more with the possession they had.

Catherine Martin lands a second half penalty for Suttonians.

In a tight game, the visitors opted to kick a penalty, mid way through the half, adding the three points to take the score to 7 – 10 in Suttonians favour.

Janita Kareta goes over in the corner for a try for Suttonians.

The Dublin side wrapped the game up about 15 minutes later with their prop crashing over out wide after a period of pressure on the Cooke line. No conversion, but the 7 – 15 lead was enough to see Suttonians return to Dublin with the 4 points.
