Connacht U18s were the visitors to Newforge Country Club to play Ulster U18 Club in Sunday’s Interprovincial double header.
Ulster pressure after kick off paid dividends, when Connacht conceded a penalty try after only 3 minutes for Ulster to lead 7-0.
Connacht had the lion’s share of possession and territory, but a stubborn Ulster defence held out until the 33rdminute when Patrick Egan found space to power over, for Conall Gill to convert to level the scores.
On the stroke of halftime, in a rare attack, Ulster found themselves on the Connacht line. Quick thinking by Zack McCartney saw him dive over the Connacht ruck to claim an unconverted try to give Ulster an unlikely 12-7 halftime lead . . .
