Malone Women suffer a narrow 12-13 defeat to Suttonians women in the Women's AIL

On Saturday evening Malone Women played Suttonians Women at Gibson Park in the Women’s AIL.

Malone started brightly into the cold wind and scored an unconverted try through their captain, Peita McAllister to lead 5-0.

Shortly after Suttonians scored on their first attack, when Nicole Carroll kicked a penalty goal to leave the score 5-3.

Molly Fitzgerald goes over in the corner for Suttonians.

Suttonians continued to pressure and found space on the right for Molly Fitzgerald to squeeze in for a converted try.

Suttonians took an 8 – 5 lead into halftime.

After the break Malone failed to make use of the strong wind and spent long periods camped in their own half and the pressure told with Fitzgerald claiming her second try for Suttonians to move the score along to 5 – 13.

Lauren Maginnes heads for the line for Malone

Eventually in the final quarter Lauren Maginnes broke free in the Suttonians ‘22’ and stormed under the posts for a try, converted by Ella Durkan, making it a one point game.

Despite Malone chances, the Suttonians defense held firm for an important victory on the road.
