AIL Women: Cooke 24 Ballincollig 10

We are currently carrying out a necessary behind-the-scenes upgrade to how images are stored and delivered on The Front Row Union Sports. With over 770,000 images on the site, we are moving our entire image library to a dedicated cloud storage service. This means images will load faster for you, regardless of where you are in the world, and the site will be more reliable overall.

As we are working on three separate versions of images during the offload process, the site cache sometimes struggles to keep up with which version to display and occasionally post grid images or complete galleries may fail to appear. This is a temporary side effect of the migration process — the image exists and is safe, it is simply in the process of being moved to its new home and identified as being there. A refresh of the page will usually bring them back, however, if it does not please contact john@thefrontrowunion.com stating clearly the post address and we will restore it as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes and appreciate your patience.

We expect the bulk of the image migration to be completed by the end of June 2026, with a fully upgraded version of the site ready to launch in August 2026. Once that work is done, the site will be noticeably faster, images will load more reliably, and you will not see any further disruption of this kind. Thank you for your continued support of The Front Row Union Sports.

I’d been looking forward to catching up with Ballincollig under the new coaching ticket of . The last time we covered them, in the short lived Community Series, they went down to Kerry and there was a bit of work to do to get them AIL ready.

By the time I caught up with this match, Ballincollig were trailing 12 – 0, at the start of the second half, thanks to first half tries from Cooke’s and , plus a conversion from . Cooke had them under pressure in the Ballincollig 22 and it wasn’t long before powered over to take the score to 17 – 0 midway through the third quarter.

Naomi McCord scores for Cooke after a powerful break from midfield.

On the Cooke side I was pleased to see the pairing of Cáolinn McCormack and in second row, two youngster I’ve a lot of time for, and it wasn’t long before McCord showed the class that Ulster has been missing, for a few season now, with a powerful run from midfield to score the bonus point try under the posts. Morton added the extras to give Cooke a 24 – 0 lead.

Ballincollig try scorers Katelyn Fleming and Jayne Pennefather

As you would expect from a team coached by Hayes, the young Ballincollig side refused to lie down and to their credit they worked two tries before the game ended. Outside centre Jayne Pennefather finished off a powerful run down the left for the first before , who caught the eye throughout the game, battled her way over a crowded try line for their second with the last play of the game. Neither were converted but there were plenty of positives for the visiting side despite the 24 – 10 loss.
