B&I Cup: Ulster A 7 Scarlets Select 23

We are currently carrying out a necessary behind-the-scenes upgrade to how images are stored and delivered on The Front Row Union Sports. With over 770,000 images on the site, we are moving our entire image library to a dedicated cloud storage service. This means images will load faster for you, regardless of where you are in the world, and the site will be more reliable overall.

As we are working on three separate versions of images during the offload process, the site cache sometimes struggles to keep up with which version to display and occasionally post grid images or complete galleries may fail to appear. This is a temporary side effect of the migration process — the image exists and is safe, it is simply in the process of being moved to its new home and identified as being there. A refresh of the page will usually bring them back, however, if it does not please contact john@thefrontrowunion.com stating clearly the post address and we will restore it as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes and appreciate your patience.

We expect the bulk of the image migration to be completed by the end of June 2026, with a fully upgraded version of the site ready to launch in August 2026. Once that work is done, the site will be noticeably faster, images will load more reliably, and you will not see any further disruption of this kind. Thank you for your continued support of The Front Row Union Sports.

We’ve been somewhat remiss with our coverage of the Ulster Ravens/A/Spanners (delete as appropriate) this season but with the games taking place the same weekends as the European fixtures we just haven’t had enough time or resources, or sobriety for that mater!

We did manage to get a photographer along to yesterday’s game at Eaton Park where the Spanners played their second of their back to back fixtures against a Scarlets Premiership Select side.

Having beaten Scarlets Select 19 – 27 at Parc-y-Scarlets last week we were hopeful for a win but alas it was not to be.

Ulster did start well and were awarded a penalty try after a series of scrum infringements. converted and Ulster led 7 – 0 after 5 minutes. It was a lead that Ulster took into the break; though more than a few points were left on the paddock in a scrappy first half.

A fourteen point turnaround at the start of the second half eased the game Scarlets way. looked all set to score but fumbled Sam Windsor’s pass and his opposite number picked it up to run the length of the pitch to score.

The Scarlets out half converted and added three more penalties before a seventieth minute try and conversion sealed Ulster’s fate.

Final Score: Ulster A 7 Scarlets Premiership Select 23

Ulster A: Robert Lyttle, Connor Young, Callum Paterson, Mark Best, Adam Liddell, Sam Windsor, Paul Rowley, Calum Black, John Andrew, Jonny Simpson,  John Donnan, Pete Browne, Connor Joyce, , Stephen Mulholland. Replacements: Johnny Murphy, Ruaidhri Murphy, Ross Kane,  Lorcan Dow, Josh Pentland, Andrew Magrath.

It looks likely that Ulster will need to win their remaining two fixtures, against Bedford and Bristol, if they are to stand a chance of progressing to the knockout stages.
