Forster Cup: Rainey III 24 Dungannon IV 8

We are currently carrying out a necessary behind-the-scenes upgrade to how images are stored and delivered on The Front Row Union Sports. With over 770,000 images on the site, we are moving our entire image library to a dedicated cloud storage service. This means images will load faster for you, regardless of where you are in the world, and the site will be more reliable overall.

As we are working on three separate versions of images during the offload process, the site cache sometimes struggles to keep up with which version to display and occasionally post grid images or complete galleries may fail to appear. This is a temporary side effect of the migration process — the image exists and is safe, it is simply in the process of being moved to its new home and identified as being there. A refresh of the page will usually bring them back, however, if it does not please contact john@thefrontrowunion.com stating clearly the post address and we will restore it as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes and appreciate your patience.

We expect the bulk of the image migration to be completed by the end of June 2026, with a fully upgraded version of the site ready to launch in August 2026. Once that work is done, the site will be noticeably faster, images will load more reliably, and you will not see any further disruption of this kind. Thank you for your continued support of The Front Row Union Sports.

Rainey Old Boys make the most of their opportunities to see off the challenge from Dungannon in the 2011 Forster Cup Final.

Rainey had the better of the opening exchanges putting Dungannon under pressure for most of the opening ten minutes. Dungannon weathered the storm and enjoyed their own period of domination, crucially missing two penalties, before a break by Rainey was finished off by hooker Martin O’Neill who barged over for the opening score. Out half added the extras to give Rainey a 7 – 0 lead.

Rainey Try Scorers, O’Neill, McBride and Irvine.

Dungannon pushed hard to get on equal terms moving the ball at every opportunity but on one such occasion a crunching tackle on Dungannon full back dislodged the ball for Rainey wing forward to pounce on the loose ball. A nice exchange between McGuckin and centre ended with McBride crossing the line to take the score to 14- 0, Walls again adding the extras.

A penalty towards the end of the first half for a late tackle gave Walls the chance to add another three points with the impressive out half duly obliging to take the score to Rainey 17 Dungannon 0 at the break.

Dungannon got on the score sheet at the start of the second half with slotting over an early penalty and when centre broke clear to add a try, shortly after, it looked as though the Stevenson Park outfit were going to stage a comeback with the score now reading 17 – 8.

Rainey had other ideas and upped their defensive efforts, gradually getting back on top with some hard tackling and astute tactical kicking from out half Walls.

Dungannon, however, kept battling till the end but it was Rainey who had the last word when replacement scrum half spotted a gap to race for the line. Walls converted taking the final score to Rainey 24 Dungannon 8.
