Following their disappointing loss to old rivals Leinster last week, Ulster were determined to make amends this week against another interprovincial side, Munster. However, despite fielding an almost completely different team, the result was the same for the Ulstermen as they failed to defeat the opposition and fell to a 35 – 10 loss.
Ulster played well from kick-off as they camped in Munster’s half, forcing the opposition back towards their own 22. However an infringement from Ulster five minutes into the game provided Paul Warwick the chance to give his side an early lead. He sliced his kick, leaving the score unchanged. Munster 0 Ulster 0.
Four minutes later, Munster found themselves being penalised after deliberately slowing the ball down. Paddy Wallace, who started the game at fly half, immediately opted for the posts and slotted over his first kick of the game. Munster 0 Ulster 3.
