Queen’s winning start to Energia AIL 2A is over after they were downed by Tipperary side Cashel at The Dub yesterday afternoon.
Andrew McGrath and Ethan McIlroy grabbed the tries for Derek Suffern‘s men however two penalty tries and a Luke Duffy penalty sealed the game for the visiting side, much to the visitors delight.

Despite Queen’s controlling most of the first half, Cashel were first on the board after the referee marched under the sticks for a penalty try at scrum time.
Much of the half was spent inside the opposition 22, but inaccuracies plagued Queen’s and they only had ten points to show for it at half time.
Ritchie McMaster knocked over a penalty before Andrew McGrath grounded the ball after Queens initially lost a lineout on the Cashel five metre line.

Resolute defence kept the away side in the game in the first half while after the restart the game was much more even. Duffy tied the game up with 20 minutes left before McIlroy scored a fantastic try for Queen’s.

The Ulster A player picked a fantastic line with ten minutes left to put his side in the lead for the final ten minutes of the game after a solid home scrum. It was deserved as the full back looked dangerous all afternoon and was unlucky not to score earlier in the game off a breakaway from his own 22.

Cashel weren’t finished and clinched the game with a second penalty try, this time off a powerful maul which was brought down metres out from the line.
Final score: Queen’s 17 – 15 Cashel.
