All Ireland Junior Cup: Ballyclare 37 Ashbourne O

We caught up with Ballyclare for the second week in succession as they entertained Ashbourne in the opening round of the All Ireland Junior Cup. Cyril Boyd with the report and pictures.

Ballyclare started in a determined fashion again the visitors with some great, fast handling despite the atrocious conditions. Constant pressure released No 12 Scott Martin to burst through for the opening try for a 5 – 0 lead

Shortly afterwards, a forward breakaway eventually saw scrum half, James Creighton pick up the loose ball and put Ballyclare up 10 – 0.

Time after time ‘Clare piled on the pressure and just before half time a bit of indiscipline by Ashbourne saw the home team awarded a penalty . . .
