2022-08-28 Portadown Ladies Hockey U15 Invitational Tournament. Day 3

Day 3 of the Portadown Ladies Hockey U15 Invitational Tournament brought the knockout stages of the competition.

First up we had Genesis against Coleraine, at Edenvilla, and Old Alex against Kelso, at Killicomaine Junior High School, in the 5th Place Semi Finals. A much improved Coleraine progressed to the 5th Place Final where they saw off the challenge of Old Alex to lift the first silverware of the day.

Losing semi finalists Kelso and Genesis battled it out for 7th place with the Scottish side recording a popular win over on the Killicomaine pitch.

Next up we had the Cup Semi Finals with Portadown against Avoca at Edenvilla and Cambridge City against Pembroke at Killicomaine. A strong showing from Avoca had the local crowd worried but the Portadown girls dug deep and ended with a one goal win setting up a grand final against Cambridge City who overcame the challenge of Pembroke.

Before the final we had the 3rd place play off between Avoca and Pembroke at Edenvilla with Avoca finishing their campaign with the win to claim third spot.

A large crowd had built throughout the day and they got the final they wanted as, the local heros, Portadown took on the challenge of the slick English side Cambridge City.

The atmosphere built as the teams were piped onto the pitch, but both teams started strongly, an early goal from the home side cancelled out within minutes by Cambridge. However, in a dominant second half, Portadown found the winner midway through and roared on by the crowd they held on to win the inaugural competition in an entertaining final.
