Larne Grammar record an impressive 52 - 7 win against Limavady Grammar in the 3rd Round of the Medallion Shield.

Larne Grammar welcomed Limavady Grammar to Lower Cairncastle Road for a 3rd Round Medallion Shield match on a dull and damp Saturday morning.

Limavady started on the front foot but the Larne defence set the tone with some strong tackles and after absorbing the early pressure the home side broke up field for No 8 Ethan Anderson to crash over, bouncing off the post padding, to ground the ball for the opening score. Ethan Duncan added the extras and Larne led 7 – 0 after 8 minutes.

With their tails up, Larne continued to press and, four minutes later Adam Wallace added their second try, grounding the ball at the bottom of a heap of players out wide, to give Larne a 12 – 0 lead.

Limavady pushed for a score and enjoyed a sustained period of pressure in Larne territory but they were unable to break through the resolute Larne defence and the home side added two more scores before the break as Anderson broke clear for his second and Duncan spotted a gap to nip over under the posts. Duncan converted both to give Larne a 26 – 0 lead at half time.

Larne’s hard hitting centre Ryan McDowell broke from deep for the opening score of the second half before Limavady got on the scoreboard with their big No 8 barging over for a converted try to take the score to 33 – 7.

The visitors came close on a couple of occasions but Larne were always dangerous on the break and they finished off the game in style with long range efforts from Daniel Halliday, Anderson and “Man of the Match” McDowell. Duncan converted three of the second half tries to give Larne a 52 – 7 win.
