The first 20 minutes of this game was a cagey forward dominated affair with neither team really gaining a foothold in the opposition ‘22’.
The deadlock was finally broken after 22 minutes, when Paul Armstrong chipped over a close range penalty for Clogher Valley. He followed this up 7 minutes later when he kicked another penalty goal from a very similar position to give Clogher Valley a 6-0 lead.
Dromore replied with a long range penalty by Jason Gribbon to reduce Clogher Valley’s lead to 6 – 3 after 34 minutes.
Armstrong intercepted a Dromore pass, well within his own half, and ran in unopposed under the posts on 37 minutes. He converted his try to give Clogher Valley a 13 – 3 halftime lead.
Dromore drew first blood in the 2nd half with a Gibbon penalty after 47 minutes.
Clogher Valley gradually turned the screw, depriving Dromore of territory and possession in dangerous areas of the pitch.
Kyle Cobain’s try after 61 minutes was a reward for a series of forward drives. Armstrong added the extras to give Clogher Valley a 20 – 6 lead going into the 4th quarter.
An Armstrong penalty after 71 minutes killed the game off and Clogher Valley were content to run the clock down.
With their 23-6 victory, Clogher Valley now join Ballyclare, Connemara and Newcastle West in the AI Junior Cup Semi Final Draw.
