With a few forfeited games in the Women’s Rugby I got the chance to take in a couple of All Ireland Hockey games. The first was a EYHL 2 group match as Queen’s University welcomed NUIG to the Dub on Saturday afternoon.
I must say I’m really enjoying our first season in hockey, every match a delight, and it’s great to see, one of our many favourite sides, Queen’s University do well in this game at The Dub after a slow start in the Ulster Premiership.

The Belfast side started this game strongly, and a series of penalty corners saw them take a 2 – 0 lead with Alyssa Jebb scoring directly from their second corner before Sophie McDowell got the second goal, a minute later, after tapping in from close range.

NUIG came more into the game in the second quarter with Becky Anderson enjoying several tussles with Queen’s legend Erin Getty.
The visitors continued to push for a score at the start of the second half and a driving run from Anderson set up a near post chance for Ailbie Folan which had Queen’s keeper Rebecca Spence scampering to clear.

However, Queen’s sealed the game at the end of the third quarter with a bouncing shot from Madison Bowyer evading the packed NUIG defence to end up in the back of the net to secure a 3 – 0 win.
