Ballyclare U20/21 travelled to Queens Arena to play against Queen’s University U20/21 in a friendly on Wednesday evening.
The game was played over 4 x 20 minute quarters to give coaches a chance to look at players and try combinations, early in the season.
Ballyclare hit Queen’s cold racing to a 12-0 lead after only, after only 11 minutes, through tries by Ben Evans and Harry Mawhinney, one converted by Callum Hall. Queen’s struggled to contain Ballyclare, but there was no other scoring in the 1st quarter.
Ballyclare continued to dominate in the 2nd quarter and a pair of unconverted Ewan Wasson tries on the 35th and 40th minutes, took Ballyclare to a half time lead of 0 – 22.

Queen’s rejigged at half time and came out a different team. Tries by Matty Scott and Niall Cluett after 43 and 47 minutes respectively, both converted by Danny O’Regan, changed the momentum of the match and when Faiz Mohd Faisal latched on to a cross kick for an unconverted try, it was game on with the score now reading 19 – 22 in Ballyclare’s favour.

Eventually a very even 4th quarter was settled by an unconverted Rhys Cobain try for Ballyclare on 72 minutes to give a final score of Queen’s University 19 Ballyclare 27.
