An alternative tournament to the Women’s Six Nations was announced yesterday to the followers of the women’s game on social media.
The Women’s Six Nations has effectively been dissolved for this season and replaced with two 3 team round robins and a play off similar to the disappointing Autumn Nations Cup.
However, the women’s game understands the constraints under which they are operating and the general consensus seems to be relief that they have something to aim for, even if it is a much devalued tournament.
Pools and Fixtures
I would say there is still a degree of uncertainty as to whether these games will go ahead as indicated. However, it is a welcome light at the end of a long, long tunnel.
With only English based players expected to have much game time between now and then it’ll be a case of teams trying to polish their much repeated “lockdown” set plays ahead of World Cup Qualifiers, for Ireland, Italy and Scotland and for the World Cup itself in the case of England, France and Wales.
Hopefully Ireland will have their scrums and lineouts functioning better than they were before the shutdown.
