Fail to prepare, prepare to fail!

It had to be bad news if Logan was wheeled out in front of BBC NI with our inglorious leader stating that if Ulster qualify for the PRO12 final they will be playing it at the RDS, the home of Leinster Rugby!

It’s bad enough that it is going to cost the average supporter at least 50 euro more to attend and that’s just with a splash and dash visit, add on an overnight and your talking at least 100 euro, but with Leinster likely to be Ulster’s opponents this is a baffling decision!

With Ulster 13 points clear in the league around Christmas time it’s not as if this decision couldn’t have been avoided, the spin that was fed to various supporters bodies since building work began was that Ravenhill was the only venue being considered and that the work would be sufficiently advanced to host a Final!

There is a chance, I suppose, that if Ulster and Leinster do get through to the final it . . .

  1. I was surprissed when the chief exec said it would be ready for the H/C qf and I’m not surprised when he’s just said it isn’t ready for a PRO 12 final because of the state it’s in at the moment. What you see complete is just the superstructure and to make it compliant with all the necessary safety rules entails at least another 3 months work in my opinion. Key components are the seating/railings, lighting and commissioning & testing of the facility. Think some folk were fooled when they saw a concrete and steel edifice erected. Remember to make the capacity 18K you needed both ends finished not just the Memorial end. Either Shane Logan was badly advised by the project sponsor cum stadium manager or he was completely deluded as to the nature of construction work. I suspect the first is the case and the guy that was appointed is not a specialist project sponsor but is a competent stadium manager. Two very diffeent roles in my opinion but somehow the people advising UR thought they could combine both.
