My prediction before the game was for a comfortable enough Welsh win, unconvinced as I was of Ireland’s form during the November series.
As the kick off approached I found myself wavering towards Ireland but the head still opted for the Welsh but all that was blown out of the water after an extraordinary start from Ireland. Read on for the game as it happened!
00 – 05 A cagey enough first five minutes with the teams settling in.
05 – 10 Ireland are the first to disrupt the lineout but we’ve yet to see a completed scrum. A Gilroy break sets up an attacking scrum in the Welsh 22 and great hands from O’Driscoll sends Zebo over from a first phase play.
10 – 15 Sexton adds the extras and Ireland lead 0 – 7. Ireland look to be getting the upper hand in the scrum!
15 – 20 Ireland in the ascendancy as they pepper the Welsh line. Half chance for Gilroy, snuffed out by Halfpenny, but its an attacking scrum for Ireland and they engineer a penalty in front of the posts.
20 – 25 Sexton knocks it over and its a comfortable 10 point lead for Ireland! Wales are charged . . .
