We caught up with Ireland U16 Boys at the weekend as they played a three match series against their Scottish counterparts at Ulster University, Jordanstown from Friday through to Saturday.
The first match kicked off at 5 pm at Jordanstown on a cloudy Friday evening with the Irish team making a decisive start to the series with a 7 – 1 win.
The teams were welcomed onto the pitch to the strains of the bagpipes from a lone piper, a nice touch from Irish Hockey, who also took the teams through enthusiastic renderings of Flower of Scotland and Ireland’s call.
However, after the pomp and ceremony, it was a quiet enough first quarter as the teams concentrated on their own systems.
