Junior Cup. Queen’s University 12 Co Cavan 10

We are currently carrying out a necessary behind-the-scenes upgrade to how images are stored and delivered on The Front Row Union Sports. With over 770,000 images on the site, we are moving our entire image library to a dedicated cloud storage service. This means images will load faster for you, regardless of where you are in the world, and the site will be more reliable overall.

As we are working on three separate versions of images during the offload process, the site cache sometimes struggles to keep up with which version to display and occasionally post grid images or complete galleries may fail to appear. This is a temporary side effect of the migration process — the image exists and is safe, it is simply in the process of being moved to its new home and identified as being there. A refresh of the page will usually bring them back, however, if it does not please contact john@thefrontrowunion.com stating clearly the post address and we will restore it as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes and appreciate your patience.

We expect the bulk of the image migration to be completed by the end of June 2026, with a fully upgraded version of the site ready to launch in August 2026. Once that work is done, the site will be noticeably faster, images will load more reliably, and you will not see any further disruption of this kind. Thank you for your continued support of The Front Row Union Sports.

In the aftermath of Storm Denis the elements played an important role in Sunday’s Deloitte Junior Cup match between Queen’s University and Co Cavan.

Intense sunshine alternated with rain, but always a strong, cold wind blew diagonally across the pitch. Playing with the wind Cavan were first on the scoreboard, through a short range penalty goal by after 6 minutes.

Co Cavan’s Kathleen Dawson finds the line for the game’s opening try.

Pressure on the Queen’s line yielded a try midway out, when wriggled over, despite the attentions of the Queen’s defence. Bartley converted to leave Cavan leading 10 – 0 on 13 minutes.

The rest of the first half was scoreless with Queen’s content to play a short possession game into the wind and Cavan unable to break through a stubborn Queens defence.

The second half was barely 4 minutes old when Queen’s right winger, , broke though a number of despairing tackles to score an unconverted try wide out.

For the remainder of the quarter Queen’s used the wind to keep Cavan pressed back in their half.

Dianne Ramsey breaks for the line for Queen’s.

On 20 minutes Queen’s out half, Diane Ramsay, found space inside the Cavan ’22’ to sprint over for a try under the posts, converted by , to give Queens a 12 – 10 lead.

For the last 10 minutes Cavan camped inside the Queen’s ’22’ and only a series of last ditch tackles prevented a Cavan score.

Queen’s now progress to the semi final on the back of this 12 – 10 win.

We caught up with captain and vice captain after the game. (You’ll get some idea of the wind in this interview! )
