On Wednesday afternoon Ballymena Academy 2XV and Royal Belfast Academical Institution faced off in the Schools 2XV Cup in challenging conditions at Roughfort. A strong cold wind blew across the pitch. Only the intensity of the rain varied throughout the game.

Ballymena opening the scoring in their first attack, when Daniel Johnston kicked a penalty goal to put them 3-0 up in 2 minutes.
Both teams found it hard to cope with the conditions. Passes were dropped, lines out became a lottery and box kicks were taken by the wind directly into touch.
The game became a war of attrition as the packs fought it out between the 22s.
As the game wore on, as players and crowd became evermore saturated, Inst held the edge.
