On Saturday morning Sullivan Upper School and Methodist College met in an eagerly anticipated quarter final tie in the Medallion shield in Holywood. Previous meetings this season had been closely contested affairs.
The grey, damp day overhead and the soft pitch after the week’s rain, added jeopardy to ball handling.
From kick off Sullivan took the initiative pinning Methody back into their half as they launched a forward assault. It became a war of attrition as the packs took on each other in the Methody half. Occasionally Methody lifted the siege with forays into the Sullivan half.

Eventually Sullivan pressure told and the Methody defence cracked. From close range Sullivan drove forward for Tom Buckley to surge over midway out, on the left. Ronan Naysmith’s conversion gave Sullivan a 7-0 lead after 24 minutes, which they took into halftime.
