We caught up with the big game in Championship 1 as 3rd placed Cooke welcomed top of the table Dromore to Shaws Bridge on Saturday afternoon.
With the game featuring two teams that usually like to play rugby I was looking forward to this one but it was, unfortunately, a big disappointment, there was plenty of physical effort but it was short on thrills, with far too many errors.
Cooke started brightly and Andrew McMurray knocked over two penalties in three minutes to give the home side a 6 – 0 lead after 13 minutes.
Dromore spent the next 15 minutes pounding the Cooke line with Cooke putting in a big defensive set.
Eventually a missed pass saw the ball go wide for Andrew Rutledge to beat the last defender out wide to cut in for an easier conversion. Sam McElroy added the extras and Dromore led 6 – 7 as the teams changed ends.
