On Saturday afternoon Instonians travelled to Dublin to play Lansdowne on the Aviva Stadium back pitch beneath the looming presence of the south stand, in the Bateman Cup Final.
Following a yellow card to Ian Whitten, Donough Lawlor squeezed in for the opening try, converted by Stephen Madigan, with 4 minutes on the board to give Lansdowne a 7-0 lead.
Instonians settled, not overawed by their division 1A rivals. From the base of rolling maul Neil Saulters was on hand to score pulling Instonians back to 5-7 after 17 minutes.

Instonians continued to press. Bevan Prinsloo collected a chip through and off loaded to Ruairi O’Farrell to dive over, under the posts. Josh Eagleson’s conversion had Instonians 12-7 up on 26 minutes.
Lansdowne hit back quickly. Juan Beukes 29th minute try, converted by Stephen Madigan . . .
