Wednesday afternoon saw the Round One Fixtures in the U16 Cup, Shield & Trophy. Local rivals Methodist College were the visitors to Osborne to play Royal Belfast Academical Institution in the Cup.

With Inst unable to break out of their 22, Methody pressure eventually led to a close range try from Harry Doherty. Rhys Johnson’s conversion had Methody 7-0 up, in 11 minutes.
With neither team able to dominate the game got bogged down between the 22s. Promising moves were punctuated by handing errors, frustrating players and spectators alike. Halftime was reached with no further scoring and Methody led 7-0.
The 2nd half was marred with handing errors and penalty offences. Both sides fought hard but couldn’t gain an advantage.
A 43rd minute Johnston penalty goal moved Methody out to 10-0.
