On a grey, bright, but cool Saturday morning Royal Belfast Academical Institution were the visitors to Ballymena Academy for a Schools Friendly.
Inst didn’t allow Ballymena to settle and pressed from kick off. The pressure paid off when Blake McClean crossed from close range, after a maul. Charlie O’Connor added the points and Inst were 7-0 up in 8 minutes.
Inst continued to dominate, and Ballymena found it difficult to gain any territory in the Inst half. On 33 minutes, after a period of some Ballymena pressure, Inst sent the ball right at speed. Ethan Edgar, on the right wing, chipped over the advancing Ballymena defence, then outpaced defenders to the touchdown. O’Connor’s conversion from wide gave Inst a 14-0 halftime lead.
